Abbot Glasberg, founder of the Christian Friendship, receives the Righteous Medal
The Medal of the Just Among the Nations was awarded on Monday in Jerusalem to Father Alexandre GLASBERG, a late French priest of Jewish origin, and his brother VILA, for their work in favour of Jewish refugees in France during the Second World War. A Catholic priest of Jewish origin, born in Ukraine, Alexander GLASBERG (1902-1981) and his brother had been converted to Christianity. He devoted himself to the rescue of Jews fleeing the persecution of the Nazis and founded in Lyon the Christian Friendship which was going to save 108 children from the camp of Vénissieux and the deportation following the round-up of August 26, 1942.
