"I refuse a certain ghetto": Coline Serreau about women’s cinema
Coline SERREAU expresses herself on a possible disctinction between "women’s cinema" and "men’s cinema". For her, feminism is a cultural revolution as important as Marxism or psychoanalysis, which concerns both women and men. There are actually men who make "women’s cinema", who propose a new reflection on the relationships between men and women. If she recognizes a certain peculiarity in the eyes of women filmmakers, in the sense that they express a point of view specific to their status and their place in society, she refuses to be locked up in a ghetto. Women have "a colonized eye" that induces a much more revolutionary look, but this subversive look can be shared by male artists.
