Madagascar: aid from the French Republic

In order to solve the problem of decolonization while maintaining France’s relations with its former colonies, Charles DE GAULLE created the "French Community" in the Constitution of the Fifth Republic (1958). The former colonies thus gained autonomy, with the guarantee of aid from France. The President of the French Republic is also the President of the Community. Philibert TSIRANANA, Head of Government of the Malagasy Republic, recalls Madagascar’s expectations regarding aid from the French Republic and recalls Madagascar’s aid to France during the two wars.
