"Organic degradation": this is how organic farmers describe the new directives for organic agriculture adopted by the European Union since 1 January. The European Commission now allows the presence of 0.9% of GMOs in products, against the 0.1% tolerated by French regulations. New rules that are much more permissive also impact farmers' practices: the end of the ban on certain anti-parasitic treatments and slaughter rules. The AB label rules are much more restrictive, but the label is owned by the Ministry of Agriculture. It can now be applied to all products complying with European law. Disgruntled farmers are trying to find alternatives to preserve the charter of French organic farming.
