François Mitterrand on the reduction of working time in BSN glassware
President François MITTERRAND visited a glass factory of the BSN Group, headed by Antoine RIBOUD, in order to see the effects of the implementation of the reduction of working time, made possible by the establishment of a fifth team. This practice, negotiated with the unions, allowed the workers, despite a reduction in wages, to reduce working hours to 33 hours 35 per week and to reduce the number of nights and Sundays worked. The journalist’s comment on factual images of the visit, the oven, the industrial machines, the workers' work precedes the statement to the press by François MITTERRAND. The Head of State welcomes this agreement between the employers and the social partners on a new organization of avant-garde work. However, he recalls that a reduction in working time must be accompanied by a gain in productivity.
