To cope with the increase in cross-channel activity, the port of Dunkirk was set up as a matter of urgency: a protected passage for travellers; bridge for vehicles, new reception building. The works, which cost 70 million francs, were financed by the State, the region and the department. The port of Dunkirk hopes to reach 1.6 million passengers by the end of the year.
