Jean Monnet "for peace, unity was needed between Germany and France"

Jean MONNET, the founding father of Europe, evokes the genesis of European integration in 1950. He explains that at that time "the Cold War was at our doorstep" and recalls: "I have always been convinced, especially since the last war, that in order to achieve peace, it was necessary to establish the unity of Germany and France." Finally, he states that the project could not have been carried out without the work of Robert Schuman.
