The city of Grande Borne, in Grigny, Essonne, was built in the late 1960s to accommodate a disadvantaged population. The architect Emile Aillaud defends his project, a large shell-shaped complex, «the safest and most reassuring shelter for individuals». But isolation awaits in this “closed city” far from everything.
