The eleven members of the Balladur Committee for Local Government Reform will adopt the report shortly. Following this proposal, it would be possible to merge several departments among themselves, to change regions for certain departments or even to separate from a part of a department. In fact, this would allow for example a part of the Haute-Loire to get closer to the Loire department, and another part to join the Puy-de-Dôme. In addition, the commission proposes to merge the mandates of departmental and regional councillors into a mandate of territorial councillor.
