A referendum is held in Tripoli to determine whether or not Libya will join the Arab confederation. Pierre DEMERON questions Hafez el ASSAD the day after his proposal for a unified Syrian-Palestinian political-military leadership. The Syrian president said: "we constantly reflect on the Palestinian affair which is our business, just as the exiled Palestinian people are part of our people (...) We act to strengthen Arab solidarity and cohesion and, whenever we succeed, we consider that the unity of the Arab ranks is strengthened and that this brings us closer to a just solution and an equitable peace."

Jacques Abouchar questions him about his absence in the ministerial team, while the Baath has largely contributed to the fall of the Kassem regime on February 8 in Baghdad.
