Jeanne MOREAU directed her first film as a director: "Lumière". By attending film sets since her debut as an actress in 1948, she has long observed the teams at work, which has helped her get behind the camera. If her four main characters are women, she doesn’t think her film is a women’s film. We don’t tell a director, like Claude Sautet directing "Vincent, François, Paul et les autres" that he makes a man’s film. She simply chose a subject and characters close to her.

For her, feminism is a cultural revolution as important as Marxism or psychoanalysis, which concerns both women and men. In 1974, Chantal AKERMAN found it important to work with a women’s technical team. Even though it is still difficult for women to occupy technical positions traditionally reserved for men, as head of sound operator or engineer, she no longer considers it necessary for a woman to prove her abilities. She refuses to be labeled as a woman making movies. She is a creator among others. "I can’t say: women, women, women... I can say: I, I, I. I can’t speak for other women". Some films of women who do not have a colonized look are different from those of men, but there is not in his eyes "a cinema of women".
