L'utilisation de la langue française ne cesse de régresser dans le monde et au Parlement européen de Strasbourg, l'élargissement de l'Union amplifiant encore le phénomène. En moyenne, 650 traducteurs interviennent lors d'une session ordinaire au Parlement, et avec l'arrivée des pays nordiques et de l'Est, une vingtaine de langues de travail sont employées, mais au quotidien, l'usage du français se trouve de plus en plus réduit au profit de l'anglais. Témoignage d'Alexander Stubb (député européen finlandais), de Margie Sudre (députée européenne et présidente d'Intergroupe Francophonie), de Jacques Toubon (député européen et ancien ministre de la Culture) et de Thijs Berman (député européen néerlandais) s'exprimant tous sur la régression de l'usage de la langue française.
