Bernard Pivot reçoit ses invités sur l'esplanade du musée de Sursock, à Beyrouth, à propos du statut de la langue française au Liban. L'écrivain libano-français Amin Maalouf, dix ans après avoir quitté son pays, s'avoue ému d'y revenir. Malgré son exil, il reconnait que le Liban l'a toujours habité. Il évoque la chaleur humaine des Libanais, que la guerre n'a heureusement pas fait dispararaître.
