1st press conference of Pope John Paul II

1st press conference of Pope John Paul II

First press conference of John Paul II after his election by the conclave. The Pope spoke in French, the Vatican’s diplomatic language. He thanked journalists for always relaying information about the Vatican so well, whether during the pontificates of Paul VI and Paul I or simply on the occasion of his own election. The Pope then took a crowd bath to greet journalists, recalling in particular that it was essential to put an end to the crisis in Lebanon.
