Sassenage’s Air Liquide company has a long history of participation in space programs. It designs and manufactures cryogenic tanks for the Ariane rocket and celebrates its 100th tank which will be the third stage of the rocket. It also built a NASA-controlled freezer for the future Alpha orbital station. This freezer, called Melfi, will be used to store samples collected by astronauts. Interviews with Michel Mouliney, Air Liquide site manager at Sassenage and Pierre Crespi, Melfi programme manager.
