The Sivom of the Rouennaise agglomeration is currently conducting a pilot experiment on the town of Bonsecours. A selective sorting of household waste is organised. Residents were given three types of garbage bag: blue for recycled waste, brown for compost and grey for burnt waste. Opinions are divided some inhabitants are quite favourable to this selective sorting system, others reject it they find it too restrictive and do not have enough room in their kitchen to store three garbage bags. Gueugnon, pilot city of the selective sorting of household waste. For a year, the inhabitants of the town of Saône et Loire have been sorting their garbage themselves. The waste collection centre selects waste for companies specializing in recycling. The remaining third is buried at the landfill. The mayor of Gueugnon, Rolland COTTIN, believes that this policy is within the financial reach of all municipalities. Better, by reducing landfill costs, they are able to create jobs. The Civic and Social Women’s Union is responsible for awareness campaigns, especially among schoolchildren.

In La Rochelle, Mayor Michel CREPEAU implemented a policy of waste recovery and recycling. The municipality organised the collection and sorting, for paper and cardboard on the one hand, and for plastic packaging and bottles on the other. Transported by dump trucks, these mountains of waste are then stored in landfills, waiting for recycling. Interview M. Recycling and selective sorting

Some municipalities in Normandy are currently setting up simultaneous collection of glass and plastic in order to reduce waste. The aim is to avoid throwing away glasses and plastic bottles and placing them in containers. A company then collects the glass and transports it to Le Havre. The glasses are remade by the glassware of Graville for the manufacture of new bottles. The plastic bottles are delivered to a factory in Le Havre for the manufacture of pipes and sheaths for cables.
