The painter David Hockney has settled in Beuvron en Auge, attracting the interest of connoisseurs. Camille GODEFROY, head of the tourist office of the small town, explains that he receives many phone calls from people wanting to know where this artist is hiding and who has fallen in love with the region.
The gallery owner Jean FREMON tells why his friend, the British artist David Hockney, has settled in Normandy, in the heart of the pays d'Auge: "he feels he has a lot to do and he wants to do it. He is here because he wanted to get out of places where he is very well known, like London and Los Angeles... Here he is quiet".
During the 16th International Photography Meeting in Arles, Yves MOUROUSI talks with the painter and photographer David HOCKNEY. The latter thinks to return one day to the theatre, but for now he says to be "rather interested in painting". To the question "Hollywood pools are over?" he answers: "for the moment" and specifies "that before finishing something, he always starts something else. In fact, one leads to the other. Photography led me to strange things and then brought me back to painting.
During the 16th International Photography Meeting in Arles, Yves MOUROUSI talks with the painter and photographer David HOCKNEY. He mentions the importance of the eyes for his art: "you must learn to see".
To the question "What are the best drawings of the 20th century?" the painter David HOCKNEY answers: "I believe that it was Picasso and Matisse who made the best... I am sure, quite certain". He adds: "I like almost everything in Picasso, I like inventive drawings, when he invents with a line. For me, linear drawings are the hardest to do."
When asked: "Do you take many photos yourself?" , the painter David HOCKNEY responds that he takes a lot of pictures and always has a camera with him. He says that he tried to catch the rain falling in Paris... but without success.
