Tribute to Germaine Chesneau who collected Jewish children saved from the Vénissieux roundup
On August 26, 1942, the Vichy regime ordered all foreign Jews in the region to be sent to Lyon for deportation. Unlike the Vel d'Hiv round-up where all Jews were deported, 108 children were saved in Lyon thanks to the Christian friendship association. 90 of these children found themselves at the castle of Peyrins at Saint Donat on the Herbasse in the Drôme where Germaine Chesneau had collected them to pay tribute to him. Interview with YiitzhakI Eldan, Israel’s Plenipotentiary Minister, on the symbolic importance of Germaine Chesneau’s struggle against anti-Semitism.
