Cycles Mercier and Vélo'v for Greater Lyon
A thousand bicycles available on a self-service basis have been put into circulation in Lyon and Villeurbanne. With a simple blue card or a TCL card, locals and tourists can borrow and then return a "Vélo'v" pronounced "vélove" in any of the stations installed every 300 meters. The bikes are produced by Cycles Mercier, a company based in Andrézieux Bouthéon. Interview Jacques RIOS, Technical Director of Cycles Mercier: "It’s less easy to do than a traditional bike...there’s a lot of assembly" Interview Bruno BAYARD, Managing Director of Cycles Mercier: "We believe that the future of urban transport will be essentially on the bike and for us it is a very important industrial and economic issue." Images of Gérard COLLOMB on a Vélo'v during the inauguration and production line at the Mercier factory.
