10 May 1981 rue de Solférino: "I have been waiting for this moment my whole life"
Following the victory of François Mitterrand in the second round of the presidential election, this report returns to the reactions of joy at the headquarters of the Socialist Party in Rue de Solférino. Outside the militants sand the champagne. Later the crowd of activists and supporters present in the street shout "Giscard unemployed!" at the arrival of Lionel JOSPIN. Around 10pm a crowd of sympathizers watched the speech of François Mitterrand broadcast in the street from a video bus: a policeman even sat down to allow the crowd to see better. A micropavement allows to grasp the state of mind of the sympathizers: "the people on our side will finally be in the government, we feel to be finally understood"." A victory for democracy through the triumph of alternation"." it reminds me of 1936"." I am a worker, I am happy, I have been waiting for this moment my whole life" "the right one is fed up" pink in the hand. A militant on the shoulders of another brandishes a poster "Mitterrand". They all sing "Mitterrand President" in chorus. At 4 am, in the rain, the sympathizers await François MITTERRAND who finally arrives and shakes hands.
