The prosecutor of the Republic of Albi, Claude DERENS, announced at a press conference, that traces of TNT were found on the clothes of Rémi Fraisse, proving that his fatal injuries were caused by military grenades of offensive type. The activists still present on the site of Sivens continue their actions, despite the shock and sadness. The Minister of the Interior, Bernard CAZENEUVE decided to suspend the use of offensive grenades by law enforcement. A year after the death of Rémi Fraisse during a demonstration against the Sivens dam project, a tribute is paid to him at Plaisance du Touch. His father, Jean Pierre FRAISSE gives a speech in which he repeats his hope of seeing the offensive grenades totally forbidden. The calm of the gathering contrasts with the feelings of anger, indignation and misunderstanding caused by the young ecologist’s death. Gérard ONESTA, Vice President (EELV) of the Midi Pyrénées Regional Council, points out that after more than a year, the state has still not explained why the investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie while it was the gendarmes themselves who carried the fatal blow. One activist adds that the young man’s body has still not been returned to the family.

Stéphanie LÉVÈQUE, a doctor at the Savenay hospital, says that on 25 November 2012 she treated some 40 wounded among the demonstrators against the Notre Dame des Landes airport project. She identified instant tear grenade debris inside the wounds and was concerned about the life-threatening risk to the injured. She decides to alert the prefect to the importance of the injuries and the danger of these weapons.

Twenty years ago, Vital Michalon was killed by a blast launched by the CRS during the repression of the ecological demonstration against the construction of the Superphénix nuclear power plant in Creys Malville. At the time, the authorities claimed that the environmental activist had suffered a heart attack while his death was due to the blast of an offensive grenade.
