François Mitterrand and George Bush meet at the Elysée Palace
A month and a half after his election as President of the Republic, François MITTERRAND met the Vice President of the United States, George BUSH, at the Elysée Palace. Among other things, they discussed the presence of communist ministers in the French government. On the porch of the Elysée Palace, François Mitterrand told the press: "France’s policy is that of France and will remain that of France but France is a loyal and faithful ally of the United States of America, so we had a lot to say to us on this point." George BUSH, in turn, declares: "Our European allies are sovereign nations. It is their citizens and their elected representatives who decide how they are governed. However, the American position on the question of Communist participation in the governments of our allies is well known. ' Set in position with Philippe CHATENAY who makes an analysis of this meeting between François MITTERRAND and George BUSH.
