In 1989, the Minister of National Education Lionel JOSPIN spoke about a possible reform of spelling. He believes that it is up to the Conseil Supérieur de la langue française "to examine the prudent, common sense measures that could be taken". It is not up to the minister to decide for the language, it is up to those who make it live."
