People with disabilities invited to the Elysée Palace for New Year’s Eve
President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing invited several disabled people to the Elysée Palace for New Year’s Eve on 31 December. In his speech, he said: "People with disabilities are part of the fraternal community of French people. They must benefit from the solidarity, but also from the affection of all French people. Our solidarity is all the more necessary since the disability they suffer constitutes an inequality that we must overcome together. And our affection is all the more indispensable, since it alone can break the isolation that often creates a handicap. People with disabilities are not excluded, they must participate on an equal footing and respect for the common life of the French. ' He also recalled that no public or private building could be built without meeting specific access standards for persons with disabilities.
