The pollution of Tanio

The Malagasy oil tanker was wrecked on 7 March 1980 by the oil tanker "LeTanio", off the island of Batz, 50 km from Roscoff. It carried 26,000 tons of oil: the Breton are angry at the authorities who did not react fast enough: the oil slick stretches over a hundred kilometers on the coast of the north. Under the action of currents and wind, the oil slick shifted eastward and thus gained about 30 km. This morning the prefect of the northern coasts decided to trigger the Polmar plan. Images of the 500 rescuers, shovel in hand, cleaning a black glue spread on the beaches.
