Opening of the Erika trial
The Erika trial has just begun in Paris. The Total group is the main player in the environmental disaster involved in this case. More than seventy civil parts of municipalities and associations are represented, with the aim of obtaining compensation for financial and moral damage. Comment on archival images, alternating with the statement of Philippe DE VILLIERS, and interviews of lawyers of the civil party and Total. Philippe DE, VILLIERS wants this judgment to become a precedent. Me Jean-Pierre MIGNARD, lawyer of the Poitou-Charentes region, civil party insists on the large number of French represented across the civil side. Me Bernard CHABERT, lawyer of the Public Treasury, evokes the fact that the State is civil party in this trial. Me Daniel SOULEZ-LARIVIERE, lawyer of Total, keeps the same line of defense on the non responsibility of Total in the claim.
