In Saint Régis du Coin in the Parc du Pilat, a circuit has been arranged to allow the observation of the bog of Gimel. Host Roland Vivière explains that by welcoming groups of children to raise awareness of the environment and the fragility of a peat bog, they will be actors in the protection of these wetlands.
The days of June 25 and 26 will allow the discovery of regional nature parks on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the creation of these parks. In the park of Pilat various activities are planned, such as the discovery of a solar heating system, night hikes, etc.
At the gates of Saint Etienne and Lyon, the Pilat Regional Natural Park is a paradise for nature lovers. The park offers trails for all tastes, from hikers, mountain bikers and horses. To watch over the trails the eco guards work on maintenance and marking. Nathanaël Arsac, ecoguard technician, describes the tasks of ecoguards to maintain the park and its paths in a satsifaisant state for hikers but also for the maintenance of the eco-system of the park.
By decree of 1 March 1967, Mount Pilat became a Regional Natural Park in 1974. Spread over six cantons in the department of the Loire (20 municipalities), it is the place for Sunday walks of Lyonnais and Stephanois who go there to enjoy its rivers and meadows.
Pilat Regional Park celebrates its 10th anniversary. If it is an example of successful management, this is not the case for all parks. Huguette BOUCHARDEAU, Minister for the Environment, wants activities within them to be balanced: respect for the environment must not kill economic activity.
An agreement has just been signed between Parc du Pilat and Lyonnaise des Eaux DUMEZ for the protection of water quality. The Regional Natural Park participates in a study led by the Research Center on Alpine Ecology. The aim is to measure the impact of climate change on fauna and flora over a decade. Five years after the creation of the Parc du Pilat the results are positive since all the elements of the charter have been respected. Today a new charter is under consideration and the areas to be strengthened will be in the fieldss of environment and employment.
