"Urban planning is a dreadful and poorly created word" explains Le Corbusier to Adam Saulnier during their interview at the castle of Luynes in Indre and Loire. The architect talks about his conception of machinist civilization, then he gives his definition of the term precursors. "These are men with eyes open, watching". Then he explains that his only study is this one. "This is the most beautiful water of youth that one can imagine," he stresses.
Interviewed by Jean-Marie Drot, the architect Le Corbusier shows, with the help of a sketch, his urban plan for Paris, including a business city composed of four large buildings that would rise behind the Saint-Denis door. He claims that this will not destroy historic Paris. "Oh no, especially not that, I love Paris!" he stresses. Then he explains that when one part is in a slum, one must not have remorse to remove it, while the others have only to stay there.
Interviewed about his relationship to religious architecture, the architect Le Corbusier evokes the construction of the church of Notre Dame de Ronchamp and strongly opposes the critics who have described his work as "baroque". "That’s an abominable word that I don’t accept," he says. Then he talks about the Notre Dame de la Tourette convent in Eveux: "I did my work as an architect, I brought a little ineffable space at the disposal of people who are chic types".
Charlotte PERRIAND defines the conception of architecture according to Le Corbusier: functional and related to man. She considers that Le Corbusier is also a plasticity and it is this notion that he taught her.
