The mediator, a dangerous drug
Mediator, an overweight diabetic drug from Servier Laboratories, banned since November 2009, has reportedly caused the death of some 500 people, according to the Health Products Agency (Afssaps). The drug would cause serious cardiac complications, with involvement of heart valves. Interviews with Frédéric BOUSSINOT, about the brutal death of his wife in 2004 due to Mediator, and with Muriel ROUSSET, who explains that she almost died and that she lost her job because of the side effects of this drug. She used the Mediator twice for a diet. But in 2006, she had to undergo a heavy open-heart operation for artificial valves as a matter of urgency. "That was sending us to the slaughterhouse." In a press release released late in the morning, Servier Laboratories estimated that "the mere finding of a valve disease in a diabetic does not make it possible to attribute it to a drug treatment".
