Mediator: a review of the history of the drug
A look back at the history of Mediator, first marketed in 1976 by Servier Pharmaceutical Laboratory. Antidiabetic, it was very quickly diverted from this original prescription and used as a hunger cup. It was banned in 1997 in the United States and France only in 2009, after the publication of Irene Frachon’s book "Mediator 150 mg, how many deaths", which denounced the scandal. In France, the Mediator would be responsible for 500 to 2000 deaths. The report of the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs will be made public tomorrow. Commentary on factual images in altenrance with the interviews of Gérard BAPT, PS deputy of Haute Garonne, president of the mission of information on the Mediator, of Doctor Jean Luc AUDHOUI, Fédération des syndicats pharmaceutiques de France, and Irene FRACHON, pneumologist in Brest.
