The safety of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides and other plant protection products is under question. The European Union has decided to exclude some 20 products classified as carcinogens or endocrine disruptors. France aims to reduce pesticides by half by 2012. The commentary alternates with interviews with Paul FRANCOIS, farmer in Bernac (Tarn) intoxicated in 2004 by chemical fumes, Jean-Charles BOCQUET, Director General of the Union of Plant Protection Industries (UIPP), believes that certain investments in research laboratories and the establishment of manufacturing plants could be limited and relocated, and Guillaume SEGUIN, apple producer in Dampleux (Aisne), who fears a decline in production.
