In less than a year, the first Ariane rocket will be launched from the French base in Kourou, Guyana. This event will mark for Europe the beginning of its independence in the space fields, hitherto reserved for the United States and the USSR. Georges FABRE and a team from FR3 Toulouse gave an update on the progress of the programme launched in July 1973 and now carried out under the aegis of the European Space Agency, ESA.
