Afghanistan: a society under Taliban law

Since they took power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have imposed Islamic law (Shari'a), transforming the lives of Afghans through a plethora of bans. First victims, the women. Interview with a Taliban man who agreed to answer questions from a woman journalist, Dorothée OLLIERIC: he talks about the plight of women. Some women refuse the ban on working: "LEILA", nurse, testifies to the risks she takes by continuing her work in the hospital. The Taliban inform doctors of what is allowed at the medical level: testimony of a hospital doctor on the aberration of Taliban instuctions. Finally, the Taliban ban all forms of distraction: television, gambling, music, sports. The speeches are illustrated by images of women carrying the chadri, nurses and doctors in the hospital, the Taliban and the population in the streets of Kabul, video tapes displayed on the walls.

Since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, everyday life in Kabul has been made up of prohibitions (no music, no film, no television) of fear, of constraints (wearing a long beard).
