Spanish people living in France celebrate Christmas by singing, clapping in their hands and dancing. But behind the joy is also the sadness. A guest explains: "Families are separated because they left the children in Spain..." This "sadness is more than offset by the hope, in a short time, to be able to return to his homeland, or his small village, or his big city". It is a dilemne that presents itself to many Spaniards." They have become accustomed to France but keep the idea of returning, even if this hope is "chimeric". He says he doesn’t suffer, but that he has a "mixture of melancholy and joy in his heart tonight".

A story of 61 years of friendship unites three women: Mimi, Jacqueline and Francine. Their friendship was born on the beach of Argelès where in 1939 the withdrawal, the Spanish Republican exodus from the Franco regime ran aground. More than 100,000 refugees were gathered in the concentration camp of Argelès, among them Jacqueline’s father. Mimi’s parents will help her wife and daughters cross the border to find him. Jacqueline is two years old when she arrives in the camp. Mimi and Francine often brought her food. Since then, the friendship between these three women has never wavered. The three women’s stories of their history and friendship alternate with family photos and archival images of the exodus.
