At the Lyon detention centre, the prison school is frequented by 200 young adults who are prisoners for basic learning of writing or reading or preparing examinations such as the primary school certificate, CAP or the BEPC or the Code de la route. The teaching is provided by four teachers and members of the Foreign Prisoners' Association for a literacy mission in this case. Other prisoners can take correspondence courses.
