Jérôme Lindon on the fixed price of the book: "a necessary measure"

Jérôme Lindon, President of the National Publishing Union, "it was absolutely essential to take measures very quickly to prevent the extinction of research, both literary and scientific in France" (and hence the publication of books in these areas). For him "a country that is content to reprint its great authors and a country that is dying culturally". Jean-Claude MUET, President of the Union syndicale des libraires de France, explains that many bookshops were threatened in their very existence because of the loss of sales (competition from large stores or chains such as Fnac that break prices)
