Canopus, 1st test of the H-bomb on the atoll of Fangataufa
At 50 kilometers from Mururoa, the atoll of Fangataufa was also transformed into a military base by the Pacific Experimentation Center welcoming 500 people to work permanently on the French nuclear tests. It was here that, on August 24, 1968, the first French test of a nuclear fusion weapon, known as the H-bomb, took place. Commentary on illustrative images of the military base.
