The National Museum of the House of Bonaparte was officially inaugurated in the presence of Jean CHATELAIN, director of the museums of France, Maurice LAMBERT, prefect of Corsica, and Prince Napoleon. Interview with the curator of the museums of France, Gérard HUBERT, who explains where the objects found there come from: they are not the original pieces of furniture because they were destroyed in 1793 by the paolists. He talks about the contribution of Prince Napoleon: he deposited some fifty objects from his personal collection.

At the castle of Fontaibleau, many visitors come for Napoleon I. The conservative Jean-Pierre SAMOYAULT, on the steps leading to the entrance, recalls that it is in front of the monument, in the courtyard "of goodbyes" that the fallen emperor made his farewell to his guard in 1814 before leaving for the Island of Elba. On the English island of Saint Helena, visit of the French domain of Longwood, which was the last residence of the emperor Napoleon. Gilbert MARTINEAU, honorary consul of France explains the purchase of the estate in 1858 from the Queen of England by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandre Colonna Walewski, natural son of Napoleon I. He is responsible for the maintenance of the estate and the museum. After having restored the buildings in the early 1950s, he looked for furniture that would restore the decor of 1821 (year of Napoleon’s death). There is still much to be done. He says why he thinks this period of exile is the most interesting of the emperor’s life. Gilbert MARTINEAU speaks in the presence of the great-grandson of Alexandre Colonna Walewski.
