An Asian island state, Taiwan has been the territory of the Kuomintang since 1949 of Chiang Kai-shek supporters, opposed to the communists led by Mao Zedong. We find here, a summary of the history of Taiwan, the words of young Taiwanese in the 80s, reports on political life as well as on the sometimes ambiguous relations with mainland China.
