Avec l'accession de Mohammed VI au trône du Maroc, on a cru un moment que la presse gagnerait en liberté. Le journaliste marocain indépendant Ali Lmrabet vient cependant d'être condamné à 4 mois de prison ferme pour des raisons politiques. The new Moroccan sovereign Mohamed VI has set up a body called "Equity and Reconciliation", supposed to shed light on the human rights violations committed during the reign of his father Hassan II. He authorized the broadcasting of public hearings during which several people came to testify to the abuses of which they were victims under these "years of lead".
A few months after the death of King Hassan II, Moroccans expect a lot from their new sovereign, his son Mohammed VI: liberalization but also reforms to fight poverty and unemployment.
