While it has been almost four weeks since Basse Terre, at the foot of the Soufrière volcano in Guadeloupe, was evacuated, scientists are opposed to Haroun Tazieff’s optimistic thesis. Asked about the controversy, the famous vulcanologist recalls his scientific titles and repeats that a catastrophic eruption is not currently planned. He regrets the haste of government scientists who evacuated the site without thorough studies.
