Opening of the new European Parliament

The first working session of the new European Parliament (Single Assembly of the European Communities or European Assembly) was held at the Palais de l'Europe from 19 to 21 March 1958. Different plans on the deputies make up the assembly and the public in the galleries. Victor LAROCK, Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs, opened the first working session. Hug and handshake between Robert SCHUMAN and Luciano GRANZOTTO BASSO, during the transfer of power between the two men. Robert SCHUMAN, becomes President of the new Assembly.
