Dissensions within the CIS on the issue of the common defence policy between Ukraine and Russia
At the Minsk Summit in Belarus, the eleven presidents of the CIS met to discuss the question of the defence policy of the new Union. Divisions are already emerging between Ukraine and Russia, Leonid Kravcuk’s Ukraine wishing to be denuclearized and to control its own army. Russian President Boris YELTSIN, in his greeting, has already announced a difficult year marked by economic reforms.
