Michel Serres about Stanford University and the Sorbonne

Bernard PIVOT went to meet Michel SERRES at Stanford University in California where he works part of the year. He questions him about what Stanford brings him and what he does not find at the Sorbonne, and vice versa. The philosopher explains that he undoubtedly works better at Stanford because it is "a monastery" where it is closed and isolated. The downside, he admits, is that the campus is separate from everyday life, unlike the Sorbonne which is "diving into the city of Paris". " You have to play or separation, or presence,' he stresses.
