French mountaineer and politician Maurice HERZOG died. Back to his career. With Louis LACHENAL, he was the first man to reach a peak of 8,000 metres, the Annapurna (Himalayas), on June 3, 1950. This feat made him famous all over the world. He became Secretary of State for Youth and Sports under the presidency of General de Gaulle and wrote the account of his adventure, which sold 12 million copies. However, recently, his daughter Felicite denounced her misdeeds in a book of charges against her father. Commentary on archival images including an interview with Maurice HERZOG in 1995, photos and illustration images followed by the interview with Michel CHARLET (Mayor of Chamonix from 1983 to 2008).
