The ineffectiveness of the fight against tobacco denounced by the Court of Auditors
The Court of Auditors has observed that the state has been too lenient with the buralists and has not been effective in its campaigns against tobacco. Tobacco is responsible for 73,000 deaths per year, 20 times more than traffic accidents. Yet the state spends a hundred times as much on road safety. According to a lung cancer doctor, lobbies have too much influence on political decisions. Tobacco costs the state more than it brings in.
