Corbeil Essonnes: the inhabitants return to the ballot box
In Corbeil-Essonnes, the municipal elections of March 2008 were invalidated due to electoral fraud. Serge Dassault, the outgoing UMP mayor, scored an unusual 51% in the Tarterets district and won the election with 170 votes ahead. His opponent, Bruno Piriou, the suspected of fraud, spent a year collecting testimonies and in particular an overwhelming proof: a filmed conversation between the two men in which Serge Dassault confesses to have bought voices with half words. Bruno Piriou was declared ineligible by the Council of State for misrepresentation of his campaign accounts. Serge Dassault was declared ineligible for one year by the Council of State. The inhabitants should return to the polls in September. A resident of the district of Tarterets (hidden face) claims that Serge Dassault offered to offer a car to a resident in exchange for his vote. Another inhabitant (blurred face) regrets "to have put his feet in this gear". Serge DASSAULT denies the facts and contests the testimonies.
