Delivery of the smallest of the Airbus: the A318
Some Airbus are manufactured in Hamburg, Germany. Air France has ordered 15 new A318 manufactured in Hamburg and is expected to receive 5 by the end of the year. The first one was delivered yesterday afternoon. The A 318 is the smallest of the Airbus. It’s kind of a shorter A320. A318, A319, A320 and A321 are 4 different aircraft, but for the captain and the co-pilot, it is the same machine: they are operated in the same way. That’s the huge benefit of this whole family of planes. All 4 models have the same engine, which reduces maintenance. The fuel consumption of kerosene is optimized to the maximum since the company can adapt exactly the size of the aircraft used to the number of potential passengers. Between the A318 with 123 seats and the A321 with 206 passengers, Air France now has a simple, homogeneous and economical fleet Interview with Pierre VELLAY: 'We now have a very optimised fleet and many companies envy us because our rationalization plan is almost academic. The A318 is a small aircraft but it is a huge asset for Air France in the current economic context.
