The heatwave highlighted the work of emergency departments in hospitals, often overwhelmed. In any case, they became, for many French, their only contact with medicine in the absence of the family doctor. This morning, the Lariboisière hospital in Paris organized an "open doors" operation for the general public but the majority of visitors were medical students.
