Rodez: city of sign language

The first European symposium on the history of the deaf and dumb opened in Rodez when the city hosted one of the first schools for the deaf and dumb in the country at the beginning of the 19th century. Back on the failure of the method of oralism, method that wanted to force the deaf to pronounce sounds they were unable to hear. The adoption of the sign language method allowed the deaf and mute to communicate. Testimonies of the deaf and dumb.
